Herbs for a Woman’s healthy monthly cycle

Nothing in Nature, or with a Woman’s body, works in isolation. All of our body systems must be able to work together harmoniously and in a uniquely balanced way in order to reproduce our kind.

Amenorrhea

This means the absence of menstruation for at least 3 months in a row. The most common cause is of course pregnancy, but often the glands and organs of the reproductive system will be out of balance, and Amenorrhea is the result of that.

There are Herbs out there that will help women menstruate, but these herbs should be avoided in high amounts and avoided altogether in pregnancy.

Three powerful Herbs that can help with Amenorrhea are:

Blue Cohosh

Menorraghia

This is unusually heavy and prolonged menstruation associated with painful periods. Causes of Menorraghia can be clotting disorders or hormonal disruptions. There are Herbs that can control bleeding and hemorrhaging, include the herbs mentioned above.

Three more Herbs that are known to help control heavy bleeding:

Lady’s Mantle

Dysmenorrhea and Premenstrual Syndrome ( PMS )

Dysmenorrhea is a term that describes abnormally painful periods. PMS is a combination of physical and psychological symptoms occurring for up to 2 weeks before menses and relief experienced after menstruation has begun. Examples of symptoms are abdominal bloating, altered appetite, cyclic weight gain, head aches, joint pain, back ache, premenstrual acne, anxiety, depression, lack of concentration, mood swings and nervous tension.

Tips for lessening the severity of symptoms:

– Check in with your doctor if there are no serious underlying reasons

– Become aware of your hormonal shifts

– Practice Sleep Hygiene ( turn down the lights at dusk, no lights of cell phones / tablets )

– Eat Liver-friendly foods like Beets and take Bitters to keep your liver healthy

– Treat your intestinal flora with fermented and cultural foods

– Maintain a healthy body weight ( neither too light nor too heavy )

– Stay active and move / exercise daily

– Minimise exposure to toxins in your daily life
